Sound of Rain 1981
I spread 400m of Aluminum wheel in the park.
Spectators could listen to the sound of rain from Aluminum wheel when it was raining.
I got the idea of this sound installation from my experience.
One afternoon I heard the sounds of the bottles hit by the rain drops.
It was the starting of the evening shower.
I noticed that the sound of rainfall is the mixture of the total sounds of the objects.
It seems people can see the silvery line of the sound of rain.
Tortoise Audio Effector 1990
I made a kind of slicer which is the effector to slice sound.
There is a CDS cell and LED light at the end of the arm.
There is a transparent disc with many objects on the turntable instead of disk record.
The disc is sandwiched between CDS cell and LED light.
CDS cell is the sensing element which conducts electricity when it gets light.
So the light from LED light is blocked off by objects the volume of the sound decreases.
I wanted play music as a DJ like a shaman plays the drum.
I think DJ is a kind of shaman who brings dancers to the spiritual world.
Nature Remix
2011/ size of the boat 1m × 1m × 5m / Chair, Wax, LED, Battery, Iron, Headphone, DJ set.
The light of bird which made with wax is placing in the shape of the boat.
People can sit on the chair and put on headphone hanging from the ceiling.
I play the sound of nature like waves of water, birds singing, noise of rain etc.
I used the sound effector I made " Tortoise Audio Effector", which can slice sound.
I played the part of a boatman as DJ take people to the nature.
